All listed books are packed with scientific knowledge and personal history cases about topics like: body-brain-mind connection, breath, breath(work) & the connection of healing trauma, consciousness & mindful living.
Personal site note: Why do I especially recommend these books?
I think everybody knows that feeling in some way or another. The deep thrive of wanting to understand yourself better - from the inside out. Like probably every human, I had and still have times where I don`t understand myself. Reaching from short moments during the day to longtime periods during life. For me, over the years, one of the most effective ways to process and heal from certain experiences that I don`t understand myself or “have no control over”, is to gain more knowledge about it. Especially gaining scientific knowledge about how our brain, body and mind works can be a huge additional help for eg. overcoming trauma, depression, stress response, self growth, general well being. For me, those books had a profound positive impact on my personal growth and understanding of self. I Hope it will do the same for you :)

MEDITATION
GETTING A NATURAL BLISS WITHOUT EXTERNAL SUBSTANCES
1992, chemist Raphael Mechoulum discovered that the human body is capable of producing its own drugs by isolating the “bliss molecule” (Anandamide) in the human system. This chemical produced by your own body, releases feelings of joy, bliss and euphoria without the risk of hangover or addiction. Anandamide boost your mood and also help reducing inflammation, anxiety, stress and pain.
How can you get your body to produce this chemical? With MEDITATION.
Studies show that only after 4 days of attending a meditation program, participants have a 70% increase of Anandamide in their system:

BREATHWORK
ACCESSING YOUR SUBCONSCIOUS MIND (AMYGDALA)
According to Cognitive Neuroscience by the time you`re 30, 95% of all your thoughts, emotions and behaviours are subconscious programs. Meaning they run automatically beyond your control & beyond your awareness. This is why real change feels so difficult, because you`re using just 5% of your conscious mind to fight against 95% of deeply ingrained subconscious patterns.
So how do you actually change? You have to tap deep into your 95% of subconscious. You can only do so by learning how to slow down your brainwaves from the “normal” high alert state Beta into the deep relaxed state Theta. When your brainwaves are in Theta, the door to your subconscious is wide open and in that state you can reprogram and reshape deep run patterns into new neuronal pathways.
So how do you learn to access that state? With Breathwork. During Breathwork, your brain is able to rewire from the inside out because the Amygdala/ Limbic System (brain region for emotional memory and development/ the “fear centre”) gets deeply activated by being in Theta Brainwaves. In Theta your brain becomes more plastic, meaning it`s more receptive to new information and neural connections. Making it possible to break apart old repeated emotional patterns of yours & instead creating new clean pathways of behaviour.

BREATHWORK & HEALING TRAUMA
BREATHWORK CAN RELEASE SUBCONSCIOUS STORED EMOTION AND PAST TRAUMA
THE CONNECTION OF BREATHWORK AND TREATMENT OF PTSD, DEPRESSION, ANXIETY
THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF TRAUMA
1. GENERATIONAL TRAUMA
Fears and trauma are passed down through your DNA. Science shows that the struggles your face, the negativity you experience and the pain you carry is partly inherited through family. This is scientifically called TRANSGENERATIONAL EPIGENETIC INHERITANCE. It means our DNA actually remembers what our ancestors went through which ends up greatly impacting our daily life. Your DNA inheritates the stress even though never facing the trauma directly yourself. So the anxiety and fears that sometimes come out of nowhere are often not just “in your head”, they actually get remembered by your genes.
Different studies show that this phenomena occurs within animals and humans. In 2013 scientists did an experiment where they gave electric shocks to a group of mice whenever they smelled the scent of cherry blossom. After a while the mice quickly learned to fear the scent. Later on those mice bread children and the results showed that the kids and even their grandkids all became extremely fearful when they smelled cherry blossom, despite never experiencing the electric shocks themself. In 2015, researchers found that children of holocaust survivors all had changes in a gene being linked to their cortisol level, our stress hormon. They inherited the stress even though never facing the trauma directly.

2. PERSONAL TRAUMA
When you avoid feeling emotions they don`t just disappear but they get stored in your body. This happens when experiencing an emotional charged event like trauma, your body automatically reacts by releasing cortisol and adrenaline. This intense emotional reaction is triggered by your Amygdala (emotional brain / “fear centre”) which then signals your Hippocampus ( translating short term memory into long term memory) to store the memory and emotions connected to it.
According to Neuroscientist Candace B. Pert`s research these emotions will also trigger the release of special compounds known as Peptides. Once released they get stored within a tissue, organ or muscle which further results in muscle tension or disease. Experiencing a stressful or traumatic event leaves you stuck with two choices. One, keep your emotions stored in your body or two, process and release them. Most people choose to keep the emotions stored because it feels easier in the moment and we`ve generationally been taught to suppress what we feel. But by keeping them stored, your brain gets triggered frequently to recall that event, leading to your nervous system to be in a constant state of hyperalert and stress, making you relive and feel those stuck emotions like the event would happen again in the present. Overtime this state can lead to muscle stiffness, diseases and mental health problems. So the important question is: how can we learn to release and process past stored experiences connected to now stored emotions stuck with in your brain, body and mind?
One powerful and effective way to begin to release these stored emotions is through Breathwork. It not only helps to regulate your nervous system and creates the safety needed for your body to start letting go of what`s been stored. But it also deeply activates your Amygdala, the brain region which is responsible for controlling your held emotions. Creating an open door to change and let go of deeply carved emotional patterns. Helping to heal your body, brain and mind from the root up.
